Determined to keep their near perfect record intact, Jericho came out like a rocket, controlling every face-off, every ground ball and totally shutting down the Glen Cove offense for the entire first period. Midfielder, Russell Taff started the scoring after receiving a perfect pass from Attackman, Karl Mueller 6:57 into the first period. Then 30 seconds later, Brett Longo made an unassisted goal for Jericho, 4:38 into the period. Max Landow added a third point and 18 seconds later Taff put in another goal to end the period with Jericho leading 4-0. Harry Anscher, playing center defense the first period, commanded five groundballs, and along with fellow defensemen, Jake Weithorn and Hudson Miller only allowed one shot on goal, which goalie, Matt Sherman, was easily able to control. In the second period, Taff made his "patented" pass to Anscher play, who promptly blasted a shot in from up close to add a fifth point to Jericho's score. One minute later, Glen Cove managed to score their first goal. The first half ended, Jericho leading 5-1.

But like a long distance runner, who ran the first leg of the race too fast, Jericho's players were utterly exhausted against a Glen Cove squad twice their size. And what started as a fast paced, lopsided game in the first half ended up becoming a grueling challenge to "hold on." During the first half, Jericho managed to take eight shots. In the second half, only one. It would be the defense, who would shine. There was some superb defensive play by Karl Mueller and Corey Saft, who repeatedly stripped the ball from Glen Cove attackmen as they approached the net. Austin Greenfield, Brandon Richter, Dan Bennisatto, Landow and Taff also played the best defensive games of the season, neutralizing their opposing midfielders repeatedly. Anscher, playing goalie in the fourth period, came up with four critical saves as the Glen Cove players tried to mount an offense against a tiring Jericho team. Jericho, with their aggressive play, racked up 8-1/2 minutes of penalties throughout the game. Not one goal was scored against their "man down" defense. As a team, they scooped over 30 groundballs. Taff, playing a tireless game, had a career high 10 groundballs, two goals and one assist. Neither team would add any points in the second half and the game ended with Jericho winning 5-1.
