Jericho's third and fourth graders seem to get better with each passing week. With improving skills, a strong, physical presence on the field and outstanding teamwork, Jericho's players are taking command of every game. The game against Hicksville was no different. Starting out quickly, both the midfielders and attack controlled the ball throughout most of the first period. Russell Taff started out the scoring within the first few minutes and Harry Anscher had two back to back goals minutes later. Brett Longo snatched up anything on the ground with a game leading six ground balls. The defense, led by Russel Greenberg, Corey Saft, and Dan Benissatto, along with outstanding goaltending by Matt Sherman, left Port Washington shut out in the first period. In the second period, the cards changed hands and Port Washington managed to score two goals, bringing the score to 3-2 by the half. In the third period, the midfielders Max Landow, Brandon Richter, Jake Weithorn, Austin Greenfield and, of course, Russell Taff, along with attackman Hudson Miller and Harry Anscher, went into high gear. Controlling the groundballs, they created many opportunities and took a lot of shots on goal. Port Washington's goalies did an admiral job defending the net, but were simply overwhelmed. Jericho racked up three more points with Anscher scoring two and Taff scoring one, ending the period with Jericho leading 6-3. Port Washington managed to score only one goal against Jericho's Brett Longo who played net for the third period. With some position changes and Anscher now in the goal, Port Washington approached the fourth period with all their might. While Taff managed to score his third goal of the game, the Port Washington offense took six shots on goal. With five saves, Anscher along with the Jericho defense held PW to one goal in the fourth, ending the game with a 7 to 4 victory.
