It was another beautiful Syosset evening, and the crowd gathered to watch the much anticipated first meeting of Junior National League rivals Sluggers.com and The Jewels.

The Sluggers jumped to a 2-0 led thanks to the timely hitting of Jillian Grieco and Kim Oringer. The Jewels cut the lead in half, with Jarina D'Auria scoring after having hit a monstrous triple to deep left center.

The Sluggers seemed to have the game under control at 5-1 with more key base hits from Melissa Carter and Madison Goldberg. Only superb fielding plays from The Jewels' second baseman Jordana Macklin, who time and again made acrobatic catches at second, kept the game close. After first baseman Lindsay Turkish's stab of a hot one hopper, The Jewels had one last chance to bat.

Scoring two quick runs, The Jewels had the tying run at bat. A smash to left center was backhanded by Sluggers' Licia Avelar, preserving the lead. Casey Roth highlighted another strong pitching performance by getting the final two Jewels batters to pop out in the infield as the Sluggers won 5-3.
