The Morrisons Pastry Angels defeated the Dermatology Center of LI Cubs in the opening game of a doubleheader on Saturday, May 13 by the score of 8-5. Neither team scored in the first inning as Jason Levine retired the side in order for the Cubs and Alex Siegel came back to do likewise for the Angels. The Angels scratched out a run in the top of the second on an RBI single by Justin Berger. The Cubs came right back to tie the score on a long double by John Shannon and a run scoring single by Joey Stabile.

The Angels broke through for six big runs in the third inning. With one out, Max Gladstone drew a walk, and John Goldsmith, Ryan Saunders and Brian Harris hit consecutive singles. After the second out, David Fusco walked, Berger hit his second single and Adam Kroenengold singled in two runs. Siegel once again retired the side in order in the bottom of the third with a comfortable 7-1 lead. Jordan Weissen came on relief in the fourth inning and pitched great, allowing only one more run the rest of the way.

The cubs added two runs in the fourth on a Weissen solo homer, a David Ackerman single and an RBI single by Anthony Stabile. The Cubs also scored one run each in the last two frames on singles by Adam Levy and a triple by Shannon in the fifth inning, and a hit batsman and a Weissen single that scored Eric Reitman in the sixth and final inning. The Angels sealed the victory as Weissen was thrown out at second, the third time that the Angels cut down a baserunner during the contest. Alex Siegel pitched the complete game victory and recorded his fourth win while striking out eight batters.

The Angels had solid performances from Lucas Paley (two walks), Brett Novick (hit by pitch, walk, long fly ball to right), William Hahn (great play at second), and Ben Kriegel (walk). The Cubs had great efforts from Spencer Ganz (great catch in right), Matt Coleman, Andrew Tiffen and Cameron Popper.

In the nightcap, the Cubs defeated the Angels 2-0 in a superbly played game. David Ackerman went the distance for the Cubs and outdueled David Fusco who started his first game for the Angels. Ackerman shut out the Angels, giving up only three hits and recording nine strikeouts. Fusco was equally impressive also going the distance and striking out nine Cubs. The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth inning when Jason Levine led off with a double, Kyle Vieira followed with a single and Adam Levy came through with a clutch one out single to score both runners.
