With its opening weekend, the Jericho 3rd/4th grade lacrosse squad played two outstanding games against Plainedge and Bethpage. In its first game of the season against Plainedge, a team with a tournament under its belt and a squad twice the size, Jericho replaced its lack of experience with enthusiasm and unwavering drive. After Plainedge took a quick three-point lead in the first period, Jericho regained its composure and fought back, bringing the score to 3-2 by the fourth period. Plainedge scored one more goal in the fourth to bring the final score to 4-2, in Plainedge's favor.
With the experience of a full game, Jericho went in to its second game of the season with Bethpage with a great deal more confidence. Taking charge immediately, Jericho dominated the play from the outset with great teamwork and over 34 shots on goal. Jericho took the win with a score of 10-6.
In both games, there was brilliant goal tending by Mattt Sherman, Harry Anscher and Karl Mueller. The midfield was controlled on both the ground and in the air by Max Landow, Jake Weithorn, Brandon Richter, Russel Taff, Austin Greenfield and Chris Basile. With as few players as we have, with little chance of rest, the midfielders managed to run up and down the field tirelessly. Strong defense, which kept us in the games, was led by our exceptional center defenseman Russel Greenberg with Cory Saft and Matt Sherman in the two corner positions. Attack, which kept the pressure on throughout the game, was led by Harry Anscher, Brett Longo, Hudson Miller and Dan Benisatto.
High scorers were Russell Taff with five, Harry Anscher with three, Brandon Richter with two and Jake Weithorn and Max Landow with one each.
