The following letter is written to Stanley Greenberg, whose "Over 60" column appears weekly in the Syosset-Jericho Tribune and the Hicksville Illustrated News.
I have been enjoying your columns in the Hicksville Illustrated News for some time. We are roughly the same age, and we must have met, as Lorraine and I were involved together in Hicksville Citizens for Better Education (HCBE) some years ago. We're also both former Bronxites, and I have also enjoyed your writing in "Back in the Bronx!"
I was prompted to write by the fact that I'm now really qualified to comment on your column (I recently reached 60 years of age), and, while I mentioned the similarities above, I was struck by the differences, in your column of Jan. 21. If I may enumerate:
1. Unlike you, I learned to type in junior high, and it has, of course, served me well, both in business and in my personal life.
2. Unlike you, I did plenty of roller skating as a kid; not by any means was I an expert, but it was fun. The last time was probably 15 years ago, and I've never done in-line.
3. Unlike you, I did read Roberts Rules of Order, and was definitely involved with using it, as Lorraine can tell you, in HCBE.
4. Unlike you, I don't wish I had gotten a teacher's license (yes, this one is stretching the "opposite" a bit).
5. Unlike you (and this is, of course, the punch line), I was a big Giants fan, and Oct. 3, 1951, remains one of my most pleasant memories!
I wish you continued success in your writing.
