Former New York Yankees and Mets pitcher Jack Aker will be holding tryouts for his winter indoor and spring travel baseball teams. The indoor team, for players aged 9 and 10, will play from Feb. to early April at Playball in Hauppauge. The spring travel teams, for players aged 10 and 11, will play from April through June against teams throughout Long Island.

Aker, a Syosset resident, played for 11 years in the major leagues and was the 1966 American League Fireman of the Year. He was a longtime manager and coach for the Mets and Indians organizations, and has won national awards for coaching youngsters since leaving professional baseball in 1988.

Tryouts will be held at Clutch Hitting Academy in Plainview on Sunday, Jan. 23, from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m.; Saturday, Jan. 29, from 1 - 3 p.m. and Sun. Jan. 30, 9:30 - 11:00 am.
