The Syosset Basketball League season was in full gear after the year-end holidays, highlighted by fierce competition in the fifth and sixth grade division. The Celtics won their straight game, nipping the Pistons in a nail-biting finish. Balanced scoring from Chris Zink (11 points), Marc Nelson and Dan Barcarvage (ten points each) led the Celtics attack. Scott Schwartz led the Pistons with 14 points.

In other games, the Jazz topped the Hornets, 32-23 and the Nets notched their third victory with a 37-33 victory over the Lakers. Michael Rubin led a dominating Jazz attack with 17 points, supported by Aaron Pollack's strong rebounding and seven points. Brandon Marin led the Nets with 16 points and had strong support from Butwin with seven points and Abrams with six points. The Lakers were led by the spectacular outside and inside shooting of Jake Hornstein, who scored 20 points, the maximum allowed by league rules.
