Conviction in Fireman's Death
Antonio Bertolini Showed Depraved Indifference Bringing Gun--
Unconvinced that murder suspect Antonio Bertolini only intended to injure and intimidate his victim, a jury convicted the 32-year-old Huntington resident of second-degree murder for the fatal 1997 shooting of a popular Syosset Fire Department volunteer who was ambushed in front of his home on Fourth Place. He was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second and third degree.

Police Determine Mystery Victim's ID
Pregnant Woman in Drum Feared Elkins' Wrath, Say Police--
One of the reasons Nassau County detectives struggled to identify the body of the pregnant woman who was murdered in the late 1960s and discovered three decades later mummified and stuffed inside a steel drum was that the victim vanished without anyone seeming to take notice. A painstaking search through missing persons files revealed no complaints which matched the victim's profile.

Record Turnout Expected For Oyster Festival 5K Run
Organizers of the 12th Annual Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor's Oyster Festival 5 Kilometer Run are expecting a record turnout for the event, which will once again be the kick off for two days of family fun at the Oyster Festival. The starting horn will go off at exactly 9 on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 16.
