Cheers Are Music to Their Ears
But this year, everybody is tuned in - quite literally - to how the Jericho Jayhawks are performing. Popular Manhattan radio station Z100, 100.3 FM, having scoured the New York area for the region's most hard-luck high-school football team, has adopted the Jayhawks in a publicity stunt that already has done wonders in raising school spirit, motivating the team and attracting more students to the games.

Richard Riley's Syosset Address
US Secretary of Education Richard Riley addressed a crowd of local administrators, faculty members, parents and students gathered at Syosset High School on Friday, Sept. 18. His appearance marked the second time in less than a year that a Washington official has toured a Syosset school. First lady Hillary Clinton visited Village Elementary School last year.

Ex-Big Leaguer to Field Winter Baseball Team
Former New York Yankees and Mets pitcher Jack Aker, a Syosset resident, will be holding tryouts for his 10-and-under winter baseball team, which will be playing in a 10-week indoor league in Hauppauge. The season will run from November until February. Team members will play in all games and participate in Aker's intensive instructional classes.
