Obituaries
Ernest W. Lopez, 73, passed away at his home on Aug. 20, 1999, of a heart attack. This longtime Jericho resident, known to all as "Ernie" was adored by everyone. He founded the Copy Center of LI in the early 1960s. A very active member of his community, Lopez was a founding board member of the Jericho Public Library. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and also served actively for over 20 years with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, including the positions of flotilla commander, publications officer and boating safety instructor for children. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his wife, Sydelle; daughters, Joan and Pamela; son-in-law, Matthew Weisman; and grandson, Daniel Weisman. Memorial services were held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock on Aug. 25. Donations can be made to the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC. Joan M. McKenna Tracy Lignante, of New Canaan, CT formerly of Valley Stream and Syosset, died on Sept. 4, 1999, in the presence of her family with great dignity after a courageous battle with emphysema, at age 75. Loving mother of Kathleen Tracy of New Canaan and William Tracy of Kendall Park, NJ. Beloved sister of Gloria and Richard Augello of Naples, FL, and the late Raymond McKenna. Cherished grandmother of Tracy Garfinkel of New Canaan, Thomas Garfinkel of Ann Arbor, MI and Kerri Tracy of Kendall Park. Loving aunt of Barbara Leger of Franklin, MA, Glenn Augello of Marlboro, MA, Janet Hall of Auburn, PA, and the late Nancy McKenna. Arrangements were made by the Beney Funeral Home, Syosset. Funeral Mass at St. Edward Confessor RC Church. Interment St. Charles Cemetery. Donations can be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society. She will be ever remembered and missed by her family and friends.
