Ernest W. Lopez, 73, of Jericho, died on Aug. 20, 1999. Born June 2, 1926 in Manhattan and attended Friends Seminary where he played football. He was a Navy veteran serving in the Pacific as a radio operator on a patrol torpedo boat during WWII. He received his associate's degree at Wesley College.
A retired printer, Mr. Lopez was the owner of the Copy Center of LI, an offset printing business in Jericho. He was a founding board member of the Jericho Library. He was a volunteer withthe Coast Guard Auxiliary and taught children about boat safety. He was the owner of two power boats US Four and Therapy. He was part of the crew who rescued five people in Manhasset Bay in 1983 and received a commendation from top NY Coast Guard officials.
He is survived by his wife Sydelle (Grower); his children Joan and Pamela; son-in-law Matthew Weisman; grandson Daniel Weisman; and nieces Jill Hayman and Stacey Kimmel.
Mr. Lopez was cremated and his ashes will be scattered across LI Sound in a Coast Guard Auxiliary ceremony. Contributions can be made to the Holocaust Museum, 100 Raoul Wallenberg Pl. SW, Washington, DC 20024.
Rose Cali Vignola, formerly of Syosset, died on Aug. 21, 1999. Wife of the late Charles J. Mother of Charles S. Vignola and Katherine R. Holetsky. Grandmother of Charles, Steven, Denise and Frank. Great-grandmother of Steven, Charles and Justin. Arrangements were made by the O.B. Davis Funeral Home, Centereach. Funeral Mass at Assumption B.V.M. RC Church. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
