On Sunday, February 8, the Island Wide Medical Supersonics won their sixth straight, beating East Birchwood Civic Association 40-31.
The game went back and forth in the first half, with Birchwood leading 18-16 at the break. Matt Checkla had 14 first half points for East Birchwood.The second half was a different story as Andrew Hutner and Adam Reisman, playing grat defense, combined to slow down Checkla. Hutner was on fire from the outside, hitting three consecutive jumpers, as the Supersonics pulled ahead for good, 25-21, after five periods.
Hutner paced the Sonics with a team-high 13 points in this balanced attack. Andrew Mlotok, with 11 points, and Corey Holtzman, with 7 points, were slashing to the basketball game. Richie Allen, with help from Justin Dorman, controlled the rebounds, with Allen adding 6 points of his own.
Shawn Small, Adam Rotter and Brad Weingast fought for every loose ball and played great defense. Adam Reisman contributed two points and Small added one in this all-out team effort.
Checkla scored 20 points, and Eric Rochman tallied 7 points for East Birchwood.
