I wish to publicly thank the members of the Japanese Friendship Chapter of Syosset International for their dedication and devotion to our community. The chapter was designed to project a positive image of Japanese people through their contributions to the community and to society.
Their contributions have been many. They have collected food and clothing for the poor; presented intercultural programs at the local public schools; presented programs for the Mill Neck School for the Deaf; entertained seniors at the Syosset Senior Day Care Center with a "Kimona Fashion Show"; created a special and successful funding program for UNICEF to benefit the poor children of the world; and entertained people of other cultures at social occasions.
Currently, the group is planning to host foreign students from local colleges at social gatherings, serving as "friends away from home" for those students; to organize a "Welcome Wagon" for new residents in the community; and to organize a program involved with the Mill Neck "Japanese Stroll Garden" (lecture, field trip, luncheon).
It has been gratifying to view the efforts of the Japanese Friendship Chapter members as they contribute to the development of a positive and productive community. It has all served as a beautiful example of how the dedicated efforts of one cultural group can be exerted to create friendship, understanding, and appreciation, among all people and all cultures in a community.
Thank you, Japanese Friendship Chapter members, for your deeds of caring and sharing, and for your dedicated efforts on behalf of our community.
