September 28 through October 2 marked Syosset High School's Spirit Week. Beginning with Pajama Day, the students showed their support for the Braves by decorating the hallways and dressing up in crazy clothes.

The week ended with the School Pep Rally on Friday, October 2. The cheerleaders began the rally by performing their routines and exciting the crowd. The loudest voices were heard from the seniors, many of whom showed their spirit by painting their faces in the school colors of red, black and white.
When the Varsity athletes were introduced, it sounded like quite an impressive line-up, with the 1997 County champion Girls Varsity Tennis team, who are currently undefeated; the 1997 Conference champion Girls Varsity Soccer Team, who are also undefeated; and several members of the 1997 County champion Boys Cross Country Team. The Boys Varsity Soccer Team, which is undefeated this year, was also introduced.
On October 3, before the football game, Cold Spring Road was packed with cars of seniors waiting in anticipation for the motorcade to begin. The vehicles, as they made their way through Syosset, were adorned with balloons, crepe paper, Christmas lights and even mannequins.
"It was amazing. I have been waiting to be in it for four years and it proved to be everything I expected it to be. It was an absolute blast," said senior Kelly Renke of the motorcade.
These events all paved the way for the greatly anticipated football game against the Plainview Hawks. Although Syosset came out strong, Plainview was the first to put 7 points on the board. But the Braves fought back, and never allowed their opponents to score again, winning 21-7. Senior football leader Matt Ajemian said, "This is one of the first homecoming wins in many years. We played tough against our cross-town rivals. The defense was spectacular, with the only Hawk touchdown coming off a special teams play."
Among those attending the game was Senior Class Treasurer Danny Link, who remarked, "It was great to see the Braves beat Plainview. There was an excellent show of spirit from the Syosset fans. School spirit is at an all-time high, as compared with recent years."
This is a sentiment shared by many, including Athletic Director John Pappas. "I'm encouraged to see the school spirit exhibited by the students - not only by the attendance of the game, but also the way in which the pep rally was accepted by the kids."
