Members of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Road Runners Club came out in full force for the May 9 Safe Child-Healthy Child 5K through the roads of Jericho and Brookville. The heavy rains kept the fainthearted home, but POBRRC members were tough. Out of the 193 finishers, 60 were club members, almost one out of every three runners. Fourty-four club members took home trophies at a ceremony at Jericho High School.

Top club finishers were Steve Rand (3rd overall, 1st 30-34) in 17:46, outkicking Eric Friedman (4th overall, 2nd 30-34, 17:48), and Karen Cotty (2nd woman overall, 1st 30-34, 18:49) heading off her Runner's Edge teammate Ellen Brach (3rd woman overall, 2nd 30-34, 19:06).
