On an overcast and cold day, the Bressler Futures White Sox opened the JAA baseball season on April 4 with a hard-fought 18-12 victory over the Kamhi Fashion Athletics.
In the first inning, the A's scored 4 runs on a triple by Brett Weithorn and a hit by Ross Kamhi. But the Sox came back with 3 in the bottom of the inning on a triple by Adam Kinzer. After the first, the Sox, who could just as well be the Twins with a battery of Kenny and Danny ¬ or Danny and Kenny ¬ Ackerman and Ian and Brandon ¬ or Brandon and Ian ¬ Rappaport settled in.
Ackerman gave up only 1 run over the next 2 innings while the Sox scored 7 times to take a 10-5 lead. Kinzer scored 3 runs on the days and had 2 RBIs. The Rappaports both contributed 2 RBI also as the Sox forged ahead.
The A's rallied for 5 runs in the fourth inning, and 2 in the fifth, to retake the lead, behind the hitting of Andrew Weissman, Matthew Lieberman and Weithorn, who belted a round-tripper.
The Sox, down 12-11 in the bottom of the fifth, rallied for 7 runs behind a clutch hit by Martin Gilman which knocked in 3 runs for the time-shortened win.
The Sox were led defensively by Kenny Ackerman's arm behind the plate, Sam Resnik at second, Daniel Gaffen at third and Stephen Spallino, Sohil Patel, Eddie Mishan and Robby Cavenaugh in the outfield. The A's were led by the fine play of Michael Kashan at first, Josh Hochfelder behind the plate and Evan Kazan, Evan Tyner and Darren Goldenberg in the field.
