Members of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Road Runners Club played a dominant role in this year's Long Island State Parks Winter Series of 5 Kilometer road races.

The three races in the series were held on Jan. 25, Feb. 1 and Feb. 8 at Heckscher State Park, Caumsett State Park and Jones Beach State Park, respectively.

POBRRC's Don Di Donato was the first runner across the finish line in both the Caumsett and Jones Beach races; POBRRC's Donna McMahon was the women's winner in Heckscher and Caumsett; POBRRC's Joe Mendez won the Wheelchair Divisions in Heckscher and Caumsett; POBRRC's Rob Loughlin took top Wheelchair honors in the Jones Beach finale and club members dominated most of the age group awards as well.

Perhaps even more significant were the efforts of the POBRRC volunteers who staffed the finish line at all three races.

The Winter Series was conducted under the auspices of the Long Island State Parks Commission, with technical direction by David Katz of Finish Line Road Race Technicians.
