Women's American ORT Holds Gift Reception

The Long Island Region of Women's American ORT held its first annual Major Gifts reception at the beautiful Manhasset home of Rubin and Sharon Pikus on Sunday, Nov. 2. This pace-setting event paid tribute and recognized ORT's generous contributors.

The funds raised from this event will make it possible for Women's American ORT, a Jericho-based organization, to provide substantial monetary assistance to the ORT Braude College of Technology in Karmiel, Israel. This school is often described as the "jewel in the crown of ORT Israel." The 150 acre campus overlooks the spectacular cliffs of the Beit Hakerem Valley and is at the hub of Israel's high-tech Region 2000.

Women's American ORT, an organization of membership chapters across the US, supports technological, vocational and technical education for Jews around the world, particularly in Israel, the US, South America, France, India and now throughout the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. It is the largest affiliate organization of the World ORT Union and a major source of financial support to its central budget.

Some 260,000 students presently are enrolled in ORT's 800 schools and projects, which include comprehensive and vocational high schools, junior and four-year colleges, apprenticeship programs and teacher-training centers in the world.

In addition to its central mission, Women's American ORT works actively in the US to improve public education, to promote literacy, to combat anti-Semitism and to support women's rights. Founded in 1927, Women's American ORT is in its 70th anniversary year.
