After Improvements,

Dangers Still Exist on Platform

On Tuesday, at approximately 1 p.m., a passenger was exiting the third car from the front of a westbound train that had originated in Huntington when he fell into the gap between the train and the platform and down to the track at Syosset’s Long Island Rail Road station, a LIRR spokesperson said.

While the train remained stopped at the station, LIRR officials cut off the electricity to the third rail until the man was safely brought up onto the platform, according to Sam Zambuto, spokesperson for the LIRR.

The Syosset Chamber of Commerce 2010 Installation Dinner will be held on February 11 from 6:30 - 10:30 p.m. at the North Ritz Club, which is located on Jericho Turnpike in Syosset.


Sports

Syosset Baseball Association is pleased to announce that it will be participating in Major League Baseball’s pitch, hit and run competition for the second year in a row. It will take place on April 10 at Syosset Woodbury Park Turf Field from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University are trading in their hats, scarves and gloves for bathing suits, goggles and towels on Sunday, Feb. 7 when they join the Long Beach Polar Bears in their annual Super Bowl Splash to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Metro New York.
