Super Bowl Hero Visits Green Vale

Students in Maggie Connolly’s fourth grade class at The Green Vale School had a very special visitor to their classroom in May – New York Giant’s linebacker and long snapper Zak DeOssie.  Miss Connolly and Zak, both graduates of Brown University, have been friends for years and she knows how restless he can get during the off-season.  An afternoon with her class was a fun and energized event that her students will never forget.

Zak’s last game of this past season was played at the Pro Bowl in Hawaii and he had a special memento to share with the students, along with his 2008 Super Bowl ring. The students were impressed with how nice and smart Zak is.

Fourth grader Hadley Smith said, “I like that he is not just a sports person, he is also smart!” and John Ainslie added, “It is interesting how many hours he trains in a week in order to get where he is.”

After a few students tried on his Super Bowl ring, Miss Connolly pointed out that Zak’s father (Steve DeOssie ) also won a Super Bowl while playing for the Giants.  Even more interesting to Caroline Wilson was their unique status.  She said, “It’s amazing that he and his dad are the only father/son combination to win a Super Bowl for the same team.” Summing it up for the whole class, Max Evans added, “I think it is amazing how hard he has to work, that he was able to achieve what he has done.  I think people underestimate how good every single football player is.”
