RHS Holds Winter Sports Awards Program

Looking Back at Some Great Seasons

Student-athletes were recognized for their achievements at the Winter Sports Award program at Roslyn High School on March 3. Eleven teams and 216 student athletes competed in the winter season.

Athletic Director Joanna Commander paid tribute to the teams and students who earned special acknowledgement for their achievements. Four teams experienced the thrill of post-season competition, including both the girls and boys basketball teams which played in very tough conferences. A very young gymnastics team improved dramatically over the season and had many individual achievements. The girls and boys winter track teams were also acknowledged for an exceptional season.

Some of the remarkable individual honors of this season:

  • Emily Lipari tore up the winter track season and signed an official Letter of Intent to continue her career as a collegiate athlete at Villanova University.

• Stefanie Klapper was named “Athlete of the Week” by Newsday/MSG for scoring 29 points and 13 rebounds as she led the girls’ basketball team in their first round playoff game.

• The boys’ 4x800 meter relay team posted the best time in Roslyn’s history.

• John Lanzillotti led the wrestling team with a 29-6 record.

Five of the teams were recognized by the NYS Athletic Association as “Scholar Athlete Teams”, and 120 Roslyn student-athletes were designated as scholar athletes for their 90 or better average for the second quarter.
