It took three extra innings to complete the game with the Mets edging the Yankees 9-8 to win a Roslyn Little League title.
Both teams displayed great team spirit, sportsmanship and applauded each other at the end.
Tied 5-5 at the end of regulation, the Yankees went ahead by one run in the top of the seventh inning, the Mets responded and tied the game in their half of the inning.
The Yankees and Mets both scored two runs during the eighth inning. Yankees did not score in the top of the ninth, but the Mets scored the final and winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Parents and coaches have all reported that this was the greatest Little League they have ever witnessed. The Yankees were well prepared and managed by Rob Appel who did a great job. The Mets were coached by Michael Wolfe, Steve Walder and Jim Tullman.
The Mets players are: Carly Berman, Carly Chapman, Samantha Goldstein, Callie Migden, Helena Pearlmutter, Gabrielle Resnick, Lida Tozzi, Jordan Tullman, Sabrina Soffer, Rachel Walder and Lindsey Wolfe. The Mets ended the magical season with a team BBQ with lots of desert and laughter.
