An Old Brookville resident has been nominated to an elite national committee charged with preserving wrestling as an Olympic sport.
Michael DerGarabedian, a criminal defense attorney at DerGarabedian, Dillon, Nathan, Marino & Rodriguez, was nominated along with 18 others to the committee, which was formed by U.S.A. Wrestling. The committee plans to create a strategy to ensure that wresting remains a core sport in the 2020 Olympic Games. DerGarabedian is the sole Long Islander named to the committee.
The formation of the committee comes in response to the stunning announcement by the International Olympic Committee’s Executive Board, which last week recommended excluding wrestling as a core sport from the 2020 Olympic Games.
