Pictured here are the champions of the Roslyn fifth grade girls’ Booster Basketball League. With a 6-2 record, they tied for first place with two other teams. The Bulldogs-to Be advanced to the final round with a decisive 20-14 win. There were five teams in the league.
Although Sydney Rothschild led the team with 16 points (including a buzzer beater from the corner that left everyone gasping), the game MVP award went to Sophia Remnek who played tenacious defense for four quarters. Jillian was always an offensive threat, having scored double digits in previous games. Avigail Neman, Hanah Philip, Angelina Remnek and Ryan Gordon were lauded for their tight defensive efforts and rebounding skills.
While Sydney and Jillian play for the Roslyn Wolverines travel team, most of the other players had never played organized basketball. Under the guidance of two rookie coaches, the girls brushed off their opening day loss, worked on their defensive skills, developed a cohesive team spirit and went to win a playoff spot and the championship.
