Mets Take Title in Extra Inning Affair

It took three extra innings to complete the game with the Mets edging the Yankees 9-8 to win a Roslyn Little League title.  
    

Both teams displayed great team spirit, sportsmanship and applauded each other at the end. 
   

 

Barracudas Top Stingrays in Exciting Swimming Action

At the December 6 swim meet against the Bensonhurst Stingrays, the Sid Jacobson Barracudas were able to take first place in every category. While there were no competitors in some categories, in the categories where all lanes were taken, the Barracudas were able to maintain their competitive edge and come out ahead.  Some of the highlights of the meet were:

The New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation has promoted William Dunn to the role of men’s lacrosse coach. Dunn has served as assistant coach, defensive coordinator, and strength and conditioning coach for the team for the past 10 seasons. The Bears kick off the 2010 season against Limestone College in the Face Off for a Cure tournament in Orlando, Florida on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 1 p.m.

Mineo-Nardacci Vies for TDI Cup Series

Roslyn resident Michael Mineo-Nardacci has been racing at competitions throughout Long Island since he was a youngster. When he earned his driver’s license, he began competing in auto cross races on the Island and in the Northeast. Now he is vying to race in the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup series, which would take him to racetracks all across North America.

Impressive Road Win Over Seaford Highlights Recent Contests

The Roslyn High School girls basketball team continued their winning ways, while the boys squad ran into a rough patch as both teams head into the home stretch of the 2009-2010 season.

Fresh off their big win against Locust Valley, the Lady Bulldogs followed that up with wins over North Shore and Seaford, before falling to conference leader Roosevelt.

 

Andy Sutton’s Christmas Gift

New York Islander star, Andy Sutton, is a prince among men. Andy recently met Brian Faithfull at the Henry Viscardi School in Albertson. Brian, a die-hard Ranger fan, was dressed all in his Ranger gear and Andy instantly connected. Andy promised Brian tickets to a Ranger/Islander game. Brian and his brother Ronnie were treated like kings in their ringside seats and then escorted to the locker room to meet the players for autographs. These two teenage boys couldn’t have been happier or more excited. It was a great Christmas gift and one they will never forget.

All Wheatley Fall Teams Receive Scholar/Athlete Recognition

The Wheatley School’s girls varsity volleyball, girls varsity soccer, boys varsity soccer, girls varsity tennis, field hockey and boys varsity and girls varsity cross-country have been recognized by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) for academic excellence in its Scholar/Athlete Recognition Award Program. This program, which was initiated by NYPHSAA nineteen years ago, recognizes athletic teams from across New York State for the exemplary academic performance of its team members.  Based upon a composite of the grade point averages among team members, team champions are selected for each varsity sport from those high schools across New York State that enter the competition.
