With the 2009-2010 season over, several players from the North Shore High School Girls Basketball team received End of Year Awards recognition from opposing coaches.
On Sunday March 21, at St. Mary’s in Manhasset, St. Aidans beat
Our Lady of Loretto from Hempstead 46-40 to win the Seventh Grade CYO ‘A’ Division Long Island Championship.
This St. Aidans team made history as they won back-to-back CYO titles.
Point Guard Thomas O’Connell led all scorers with 15 points and Center Sam Fieldman had 15 rebounds.

The East Coast Conference has announced that its head coaches have selected the Queens College Knights’ Chloe Johnson to the 2009-10 all-Rookie Women’s Basketball team.
Sophomore Melissa Ugelow, a Roslyn resident and currently a member of Muhlenberg College women’s indoor track and field team, was named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll for excellence in the classroom and on the track and the All-Centennial Conference sportsmanship team.
Roslyn High School senior Matt Goldberg will be attending Franklin and Marshall College to play college lacrosse next year.

Just days after receiving a rousing ovation at the Roslyn High School Winter Sports Awards program for her past accomplishments, Emily won the 1,500-meter Federation championship on Saturday, March 6 at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY.
This past January, Ryan Burke emerged victorious at the St. Aidans Pack #221 Pinewood Derby at the annual Pack Night Pinewood Derby races for the Tiger Cub division. As the evening went on, there was loads of fun and cheering for all the various levels of Tigers, Wolves, Bears Webelos I and II.
At the end of the evening, Ryan was entered in the final races to determine the overall pack winner and his car, the Golden Bullitt, won all of those heats as well. He finished as the overall winner of the pack, never losing a single heat and is now headed to the district Pinewood Derby races in March. This was the first time that a Tiger Cub has ever won the overall night’s races. The competition resumes in March.
Student-athletes were recognized for their achievements at the Winter Sports Award program at Roslyn High School on March 3. Eleven teams and 216 student athletes competed in the winter season.
Athletic Director Joanna Commander paid tribute to the teams and students who earned special acknowledgement for their achievements. Four teams experienced the thrill of post-season competition, including both the girls and boys basketball teams which played in very tough conferences. A very young gymnastics team improved dramatically over the season and had many individual achievements. The girls and boys winter track teams were also acknowledged for an exceptional season.
SJD Media, coached by Stu Dinetz and Roy Greif, won its second consecutive Roslyn Booster Basketball championship on Feb. 6 at the Roslyn Middle School, as they defeated Dundy Glass 37-28.
