The Roslyn High School boys’ basketball squad, which has been a force in Long Island hoops in recent years, is off to a solid start for the 2010-2011 campaign.
The Wheatley Girls Track Team won the most medals for the eighth straight year at the Wheatley Relays on Dec. 4. Track runner Ariel Fieldman set a new school record with a 5’0 ft. high jump. Liz Kalish held the record with a 4’11” jump, previously. The high jump relay took the gold along with Nicole Cutinello and Marissa Christina.
The North Shore Autism Circle is hosting its first annual Serve an Ace for Autism Celebrity Tennis Pro-Am and Clinic at Roslyn Sportime on Friday, Feb. 4, from 7 to 11 p.m. Many local tennis enthusiasts will partner with celebrity and local tennis pros to raise funds to support the North Shore Autism Circle. Tim Mayotte, Gene Mayer, Virginia Wade, and Gigi Fernandez, as well as others are scheduled to appear. They will be having a taste of the town food menu for all of those who come out. These funds will allow North Shore Autism Circle to remain a vital resource for those children who benefit from their programs.
Roslyn resident Melissa Ugelow, a senior athlete on the Muhlenberg College women’s cross country team, was named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll for excellence in the classroom and on the course.
East Hills resident Roberta Leventhal recently returned from a trip to Israel. The occasion wasn’t a vacation to escape the New York cold, but to participate, for the second time, in a charity cycling event, one to raise money for Alyn Hospital.
On Sunday, Nov. 28, East Hills resident Harvey Weinberg fulfilled a dream of most every New York Giants football fan. No, he didn’t go on the field and actually play, a la George Plimpton in Paper Lion, but he did make it to the sidelines.
As usual the Annual Herricks Athletic Boosters Dinner was a success and was attended by so many supporters of the many sport teams at Herricks.
The Herricks Athletic Director James Petricca is almost totally responsible for the success and expansion of the Herricks Athletic program and he was praised many times throughout the dinner for all of his hard work.
For the seventh time, Buckley Coach Roby Young, former Olympian, boasts an undefeated soccer season for the boys 5/6 A team.
