Sarah Amengual, star of West Side Story on Broadway will be traveling vto East Hills this summer as a Class Act NY will be returning to the Sid Jacobson JCC for a session that will last from Monday, Aug. 19 through Friday, Aug. 23.
Sarah will be the camp instructor for the August classes. She recently played the legendary role of Maria in the West Side Story production.
Campers also work with a multitude of Broadway actors all week long, taking workshops in everything ranging from Intro to Shakespeare, Stage Combat, Stage Make-Up, Broadway Dance, Vocal Training and On-Camera Acting.
On Wednesday, Aug. 21, the students will take the bus into Manhattan and take a seat at Newsies, one of Broadway’s biggest smash hits. After the curtain comes down, campers are treated to a talk back with actors and crew.
In addition, campers make their Off-Off Broadway Debut in a musical theatre showcase at the JCC’s own state-of-the-art 200 seat theatre at the end of the week.
Camp is not only super educational but it’s also a ton of fun,” said Jessica Rofe, Class Act NY’s director. “Kids will walk away with memories and friendships they will cherish forever.”
The August classes will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with early drop off option. Classes are for children ages 7 to 16. Cost is $695.00 for JCC members; $770 for non-members. Cost includes ticket to the Broadway matinee and transport to and from Manhattan.
