I am a Boy Scout who is working towards my Communications merit badge and I have a topic that I feel needs to be brought forward in the public forum.
Copyright laws were originally created to protect the intellectual properties of artists and writers. However, this system was created before the invention of the Internet and hasn’t changed much since that point.
With the widespread use of electronic media, copyright laws have become quite outdated. In my opinion, copyright protection agencies are taking advantage of copyright laws for their own gain, even to the point of going against the wishes of the actual copyright holders.
I firmly believe that this is a misuse of copyright laws in the United States and copyright laws need to be rewritten to adjust to newer forms of media.
