I am an enthusiastic supporter of Craig Johnson’s campaign for NY State Senate. My story started approximately six years ago when Senator Johnson served as a Nassau County Legislator.
At the time, a new resident from East Park in Roslyn Heights was questioning why he had to pay sewer taxes, since he had no sewers. This aroused my interest, because I remembered how a whole area of Roslyn Heights, P.O. 11577, extending west from Glen Cove Road to Willis Avenue, and south from Harbor Hill Road to the Northern State Parkway, had agreed to pay sewer taxes, so that urban renewal around the Roslyn LIRR Station could be built. Thereafter, for a period of approximately 35 years, these taxes had increased from roughly $25 to more than $300-$400 per year.
I decided to investigate and did some research at the Nassau County Records in Mineola. I then contacted Craig Johnson, then a Nassau County Legislator who was very supportive of our efforts. All the civic associations in the affected area cooperated and sent petitions to County Executive Tom Suozzi, requesting removal from the sewer rolls. It was Craig Johnson’s intervention and full support that finally persuaded Tom Suozzi to free us from this onerous tax.
As a NYS Senator, Craig Johnson has always been available to listen to any problems that arise and help solve them. Most recently, all of us in the Roslyn Bryant Library District are benefiting from a $100,000 donation toward a new elevator to replace a very old one that is not repairable.
I believe that Craig Johnson is highly competent, completely trustworthy, honest, and wants only to serve ours and New York State’s best interests. Rather than increase his State Senate salary, he voted not to accept any increase. We should all vote for him. He deserves it.
