Village of East Hills Mayor Michael R. Koblenz claims he has bargained in good faith to reach a fair and equitable contract agreement with the CSEA Highway and Sanitation Unit in East Hills Village. This comment was contained in an article titled. “Village Workers Rally in East Hills,” which appeared in the Sept. 23 issue of The Roslyn News.
Let’s set the record straight. The mayor has employed a union-busting strategy for the past three years, using every tactic imaginable, including spending taxpayers’ money on a law firm to provide advice on circumventing labor laws. He has continually obstructed the collective bargaining process by postponing and canceling meetings and by refusing to agree to consider basic rights and benefits.
The article also states the purpose of the rally was “to protest the inability of the union and the village to negotiate a contract agreement.” In truth, the actions of Mayor Koblenz have confirmed that bargaining in good faith with CSEA is not his intention. If you want the real story, watch what he does, not what he says.
