The much-anticipated Desert Highway concert, one held July 24 at Gerry Park, turned out to be a huge success. A crowd of up to 400 people attended the show by a band that plays the songs of the legendary band The Eagles.
The show was produced by the Roslyn Chamber of Commerce and was considered their premier event of the summer months. It started at 6:30 p.m. and the pleasant summer evening, along with the familiar tunes, all contributed to a family-friendly event, one that highlighted the continued growth and success of the chamber itself.
“The crowd was estimated at 400 and no one wanted to go home,” said Barbara Kaplan, a chamber member and director of both the Over 50 Fair and All Kids Fairs. “They were such a great group. The weather was perfect and the park was as gorgeous as I have ever seen it. And not a goose in sight.”
Kaplan also thanked fellow chamber member Lou Federico for his “tireless hours” of volunteer work that made the night possible. Chamber members would also like to thank the evening’s sponsors, which in addition to the chamber included Rallye Motors, Atria on Roslyn Harbor, Delicacies Gourmet Deli, Holiday Farms, Integrated Fitness Solutions, North Shore LIJ, Glen Cove Hospital, North Shore Optics at Roslyn Eye Centre, Town of North Hempstead and the Village of Roslyn.
The next chamber meeting will be at Truth & Beauty, located on S. Service Rd, Roslyn Heights on Wednesday, Sept. 18, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
A guest speaker is being lined up for the Sept. 18 meeting and will be announced shortly. In addition, the meeting will feature wine, soda, and cheese and crackers.
