A wild tropical-style rain and windstorm that hit the New York area on Sunday night did particular damage to several Roslyn neighborhoods.
At about 7:00 p.m. on July 26, several large trees were blown over in the Marchant Park area of Roslyn.
On Regent Place, just off Mineola Avenue, a large tree with a forked trunk, split. Half of it came crashing down, landing on the roof of a van, while also blocking the street.
Residents said that a van roof was dented and rear window smashed but the two passengers were unhurt.
On Junard Drive, a large tree was uprooted and fell; this time it landed toward a home. It damaged both the roof of the home and the rear end of an auto.
