Lecture Series

David Roskie, professor of Jewish Literature at the Jewish Theological Seminary and founder and former editor of Prooftests, a journal of Jewish history, will discuss his newest book Yiddishlands: A Memoir. Roskies’ home in Montreal was a salon for Yiddish writers, actors and artists. Voice of the Faithful

Northwest Nassau Parish Voice Affililate was formed by faith-filled Catholics in the wake of the sex abuse crisis in the Catholic Church to support victims of abuse, priests of integrity and to call for the restructuring of the church. The Sisterhood of Temple Emanuel of Great Neck will hold a Rummage Sale at 6 Grace Ave., Great Neck, from Saturday, Dec. 5 through Thursday, Dec. 10. The sale hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Thursday. Set-up days are Dec. 3 and 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you have clothes that you know you will no longer be wearing, household items, bric-a-brac, books and other merchandise, in good condition, bring your donations to 6 Grace Ave. on the set-up days. Junior League of Long Island Events

•The Junior League of Long Island’s nonprofit Thrift Shop, 1395 Old Northern Blvd, Roslyn Village, is having its third annual Coat Extravaganza. Coats for men women and children are being sold at unbelievable prices. Proceeds from this event go to benefit programs for women and children in the community. The event is ongoing, until around December. New and used coats will be collected at this time.

•The Thrift Shop is accepting any new and used men’s women’s and children’s clothing and accessories and housewares.

•Story Time will be held on the first Tuesday of every month at 10:30 a.m.

•On the first Wednesday of every month the Thrift Shop will be hosting story time for children of all ages. The first story time will be on Oct 7.

•The league will be hosting its first annual amateur photo contest. The theme is “women and children.” Collections of photos will be received at the Thrift Shop from Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All photos should be 5x7 or larger and appropriately mounted.
