Kayak Conservation Tour & Breakfast

On Saturday, Sept. 7, the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary & Audubon Center will hold a Kayak Conservation Tour & Breakfast.  Join TR Sanctuary to explore nature at night, to  build your own marine life seine net, or to get up close and personal with local bird-life. Chazak Shabbat/Rosh Hashanah Celebration 

Join Temple Sinai on Saturday, Sept. 7 for a Chazak Shabbat/Rosh Hashanah Celebration 10:00–11:30 am.  Chazak is the wonderful ongoing program for children 6–14, with developmental differences. See your child grow, learn, and thrive in a nurturing, inclusive environment. Terrarium Planting Workshop

Ever popular, terrariums are a beautiful and elegant addition to a home. Participants in this workshop can create their own miniature glass gardens during this workshop with assistance from the nursery’s design staff. Bring your own glass vessel or the Nursery will provide one. Cost: $45.00 +tax includes all materials. Participants may bring their own glass vessel, price will be determined by its size. Planting for Privacy

On Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 11 a.m., Hicks Nurseries will present a planting for privacy workshop. Participants will learn which trees and shrubs will grow tall and full to help make their yard the private oasis they always wanted it to be. Hicks Landscapes’ designer Rich Abate will discuss the best options available to gain valuable privacy or to block out undesirable views. It’s Time: How to Bring Plants Indoors For Winter

On Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m. After a summer nurturing houseplants and tropical outdoors soon it will be time to transfer them indoors for the winter months. This informative seminar explains the steps necessary to successfully transfer a plant indoors. From insect control to lighting and soil, all will be covered. On Oct. 10, the Senior Activity Committee (SAC) at The Park At East Hills will join with The Rockefeller Estate and Union Church for lunch at Sunset Cove restaurant in the historic Hudson Valley. The bus leaves the park at 8 a.m.

Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk

On Sunday, October 13, local residents will join together for The Lustgarten Foundation’s 13th annual Long Island Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk, which will be held at Jones Beach in Wantagh. Walkers can participate in a one or three-mile walk along Jones Beach’s scenic boardwalk. Since its inception, the Long Island walk has grown to more than 7,000 participants and raised more than $9.3 million for pancreatic cancer research. Visit for more information. Pre-registration fee: $50.00. Walk-in registration fee: $60.00. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The walk begins at 9:30 a.m. The walk takes place at Jones Beach State Park, Wantagh, Field 5.

The Roslyn High School Class of 1953 will hold its 60th class reunion on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at The Roslyn Hotel. The evening will include a cocktail reception and dinner.
