Classic Concert

The concert features the Trinity Church Choir, joined by performers from Friends Academy. Martha Regelmann, conductor. Gems of choral and instrumental music by Bach, Mozart, Faure and Rutter will be performed. Cello, piano and organ will be featured solo instruments as well as accompaniment for the sublime choral masterpieces. The finale of this delightful concert will combine all the singers and instrumentalists in John Rutter’s dramatic “Out of the Deep,”followed by an inspiring setting of the beloved text, “Lord, Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace.” Bring an open heart and enjoy the beautiful music while soaking in the atmosphere of the lovely Stanford White architecture and the soft glow of the Tiffany stained glass windows. Memorial Chapel Dedication

The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Alumni Association and Foundation will be celebrating the Golden Jubilee (50th Anniversary) of the dedication of the Mariners’ Memorial Chapel with a multi-denominational ceremony in the chapel. The chapel was built to commemorate the sacrifices of the officers and men of the United States Merchant Marine who gave their lives at sea in World Wars I and II. 2:30 p.m. The ceremony will be preceded by a fireboat salute at 2 p.m. The public is invited.

Equestrian Challenge

There will be an Equestrian Challenge held at the North Shore Equestrian Center, 720 Northern Blvd., Greenvale, from 4 to 7 p.m. It is a riding event in which participants ride without stirrups for a designated period of time. Riders seek sponsorships or sponsor themselves. Novice riders and masters will be handicapped. Advanced skills will be factored into the times. Exhibit

Viewpoints - Art of the Portrait. Port North Spring Boys Basketball

Port North is a 3-year-old independent basketball team based out of Port Washington that plays year round in the super league at Island Garden and various tournaments in the metropolitan area. The program currently has a combined record of 30 - 3 in the winter super league. The emphasis is on teaching the fundamentals, developing good practice habits and preparing players for middle and high school basketball. The team has a professional trainer with more than 20 years experience. Sands-Willets House Tours

From May through October, the Sands-Willets House, circa 1735, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the headquarters of the Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society is open for guided tours of its 10 fully furnished rooms on the first and third Sunday of each month. Also included is a tour of the 1600’s Dutch barn. Tour hours: 2:15 and 3:15 p.m. An admission fee of $5 per adult and $2.50 for children under 12 helps the society maintain the house, its barn and the grounds on which they stand. Look Good, Feel Better

Is the American Cancer Society’s two-hour class for women undergoing treatment for cancer. It is designed to help them deal with possible appearance-related side effects such as hair loss and skin changes, while enhancing their self-image at the same time. Trained volunteer cosmetologists provide participants with tips on skin care, makeup application, wig/turban styling, etc. Every participant receives a complimentary box of make-up containing the products used in the program. The class is free. Preregistration required. Some of the sessions are done in Spanish and English. Held at North North University Hospital in Manhasset. Call 800-ACS-2345.

Nassau County Museum of Art

The Nassau County Museum of Art, One Museum Dr., Roslyn Harbor, is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Admission is $10 adults; $8 seniors (62+); $4 children (4-12); members free. Weekends only there is a $2 parking fee (members free). There is a docent-led exhibition tour every day at 2 p.m.; meet in the lobby, no reservations are needed. Van Nostrand Starkins House Museum

Located at 221 Main St., Roslyn. Open every Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is $4 adults; $2 children and seniors. Beverly McDermott, museum educator, gives guided tours every half hour. The museum is filled with two rooms of 18th century antique furniture and one room filled with 18th century samplers and archaeological artifacts. The Children’s Hands on Education program is not to be missed. It is filled with 18th century reproductions of children’s clothing, toys and artifacts for children to handle and enjoy.

St. Hyacinth Thrift Shop
