Shelter Rock Tennis & Country Club of Manhasset abandoned us when they closed the dining room for two months. Dr. Merrill Goodman of Manhasset and Bernard Newman of Dix Hills, and myself, known as the ROMEOS (Retired Old Men Eating Out at the club) were at a loss. Someone suggested a North-South luncheon trip down Willis Avenue (starting in Roslyn) and we quickly agreed on the following schedule: Chicken Kabob, Persian Garden; Tokyo, Asian; Scotto Luna, Italian; Jade King, Chinese; Bagel Boss; Hokkaido, Japanese; Hot Bagels & Bialys; Vincent's Pizza; Deli On Rye; La Gondola, Italian and I-Hop on Hillside.
We were surprised at the reasonable prices, averaging a touch over $10. Food ran from good to superior.
Then, back to the club for a Jacuzzi, steam and shower and maybe a round of bridge. Next year, East to West on Hillside?
