Stephen Wallace to Talk At EWRCC Meeting
The East Williston/Roslyn Community Coalition for Drug Free Youth (EWRCC) invites parents and students to a special forum called "Reality Gap: What Parents Don't Know and Kids Aren't Telling" featuring Stephen Wallace, chairman and CEO of SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions).
The Parent & Student Forum will be held on Wednesday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Roslyn High School Auditorium. The free forum is open to all families in both the East Williston and Roslyn School communities.
The family focus program will explore the "Reality Gap" that often divides parents and teens and will offer practical advice to help them improve family communication and strengthen their relationships.
"Many adults have trouble having candid conversations," Wallace said. "Kids hate the big talk and there's a disconnect between the real world kids are living in and the world adults think they're living in. We need to make sure that we're asking questions, make sure that we're listening carefully." Using research, stories, and humor, Stephen Wallace will cover subjects such as underage drinking, drug use, impaired driving, and teen suicide.
Since 2003, EWRCC has been working toward a simple but formidable goal to reduce alcohol and drug use among the youth of our communities. EWRCC's objective is to educate families as they face today's many parenting challenges by means of parent education workshops, public service ads and community website (www.ewrcc.org). EWRCC strives to give parents the access to the critical resources they need to address teenage drug and alcohol use. An incorporated, not-for-profit organization, EWRCC relies on contributions from individuals, corporations and government for its work on behalf of the children of the communities.
