A heartfelt thank you goes to the residents of the East Williston School District who braved the blustery winter weather on Tuesday to send a resounding message of support for our schools. Your vote, by a two to one margin, will allow us to move forward and replace the Wheatley roof this summer. We especially appreciate this affirmative vote in these difficult economic times. Be assured that we will pursue all cost-saving avenues to bring you the greatest reward for every dollar spent.

Special thanks go to the volunteer members of the Capital Facilities Advisory Committee: Michael Braito, Ronald Katz, Steve Nemiroff, Howard Siegler, Phil Strocchia and Linda Sussman, and to the Financial Advisory Committee volunteer members: Alan Goldstein, Barbara Guglielmo, Ira Malin and Larry Posner, for their tireless effort throughout the planning process. Their expertise and guidance allowed us to present a bond that was deserving of your support. When a community works together, all things are possible.

This past week I presented a first draft of the 2009-10 budget to the Board of Education for their review in the coming weeks. We are also convening the Financial Advisory Committee to again seek their guidance as we deliberate to present a budget that will be under the 4 percent contingency tax cap that is advocated by the governor.
