At its Jan. 20 meeting, the Village of Roslyn board of trustees rejected a Special Use Permit application by Omnipoint Communications, Inc.

Omnipoint had sought such an application in order to install a telecommunication antenna at 255 Warner Ave.

At the meeting, the BOT instructed the village attorney to prepare a written decision on the matter, one to be approved by board members at the Feb. 9 public meeting.

The antennae application stood on ground that also houses Sunharbor Nursing Home. The application was met with opposition by local residents, who picketed the site to demonstrate their disapproval. More details of the BOT's decision will appear in a future issue of The Roslyn News.

In other news, the BOT voted to continue hearings on another Special Use Permit application, this one by Roslyn Park Realty, Corp., 1382 Old Northern Blvd. That request is for a permit concerning restaurant use and outside seating.

The BOT approved several resolutions at the Jan. 20 meeting. They include approving the publication of the availability of the Tentative Assessment Roll for 2009-2010; approving advertising for Grievance Day for Feb. 17; and approving a Tax Lien Sale.

In addition, the BOT approved a bid to Cameron Engineering for a recently received Local Government Records Management GIS Grant.

The village has received a $29,350.00 New York State Records Management Grant for the purpose of converting its village sanitary sewer system records to a sanitary sewer "geodatabase" system. The sewer system geodatabase will contain all of the village's sanitary sewer system records and become the village's formal sewer records management system.

According to village officials, this records improvement project will result in tens of thousands of savings to the public works department by providing accurate data for emergency repairs and maintenance operations. In the future, village officials added, this system may be expanded to include additional village infrastructure and resources.

The BOT also approved a resolution that changes Village Contracts from (1) one year to two (2) or more years in agreement. The following services are affected:

• Elevator Contract/metro Accessibility Lifts

• Heating & AC (preventive maintenance) Maccarone;

• Repairs & Mark Outs/Instant Plumbing and Heating;

• Security System Telstar;

• Sewer Cleaning Contracts/Instant Plumbing and Heating;

• Sprinkler System (preventive maintenance) Maccarone;

• Irrigation Sprinkler Systems/Hi-Tech;

• Street Lighting/Lighting Maintenance/New York Trenchless;

• Tree and Shrub Care Contract/Bartlett Tree Experts.
