Temple Sinai's Brotherhood hosted their annual sports celebrity brunch on June 8 with New Jersey Nets head coach Lawrence Frank headlining the event. This was the first sports celebrity event to be held in the temple's new Susan and Leonard Feinstein Learning Center.
A packed crowd of nearly 100 joined Frank as he discussed his career and "growing up and dreaming of coaching in the NBA." He stressed values learned from his childhood and early assistant coaching career with Bobby Knight at Indiana to "leverage your passion through competency, sincerity, trustworthiness and reliability." He also stressed the role of teamwork, and how he manages a diverse group of talented men by constantly emphasizing for them to "know your role, embrace it, love it and do it every day."
Frank leads the Nets franchise in victories as a coach and received fame early in his career by leading the Nets to 13 straight victories at the start of his career, the most by any NBA coach in history. This fame was achieved while he was the youngest coach in the NBA, a feat to be admired by all basketball and sports fans.
