Roslyn High School students Emily Lipari, Thomas Lipari and Alex Spanbock represented Roslyn and Nassau Section VIII in the New York State Track and Field Championships held at the University of Buffalo the weekend of June 13.

All three students had previously competed at this level. Alex Spanbock, who finished fourth in shot put at the indoor championships, faced very tough competition, threw consistently well and finished 10th.

Emily Lipari put an exclamation point on her stellar year winning both the 3000 meter (9 minutes, 36 seconds) and the 1500 meter (4 minutes, 30 seconds). She was the only girl to win two events and she dominated both.

Thomas Lipari was not to be outdone, finishing 6th in the steeplechase. He posted a 9:46.9 time, only tenths off his personal best and finished 2nd among all Long Island runners.

Both Thomas and Emily earned All State honors and were part of a Long Island team that posted an overall dominating performance - the best in 20 years.
