This Tuesday, March 18, villages in the Roslyn area will hold annual trustee elections. In all villages save Roslyn Estates, elections are not contested.

In Roslyn Harbor, current Mayor Yvette Edidin, plus trustees Louis Badolato and Eric Schuster face no opposition for their four-year terms. In East Hills, trustees Linda Nathanson and Manny Zuckerman are up for another four-year term, while in Roslyn Village, Deputy Mayor Marshall Bernstein and trustee Craig Westergard are on the ballot for two-year terms.

In Roslyn Estates, three candidates are vying for two Board of Trustee seats, each with a two-year term. Dr. Sandy Siff is running for re-election, while one position is an open seat. Hal J. Pasetsky and Brian Feingold are the two other candidates. The following are candidate profiles.

Hal J. Pasetsky and his family have been living in Roslyn Estates since 2006. He is currently an executive of a Wall Street firm and a former certified public accountant. Pasetsky feels his financial background will compliment the needs of the Village of Roslyn Estates. Pasetsky has been active member in the community, serving in town sponsored family events and attending Board of Trustee, Zoning Board and Architecture Review Board meetings, while getting a feeling for the general atmosphere of the village and its laws.

"This is a time for new ideas and a fresh perspective," he told The Roslyn News. "As there is an open position on the Board of Trustees, I feel that I can bring enthusiasm and a different point of view to the position. The neighborhood is starting to turnover with more and more families with young children joining our community, and I feel it is important to take an active role in the village in which you live."

Pasetsky hopes to preserve and enhance Roslyn Estates as one of the premier villages in Nassau County and keep the qualities that make it a perfect place to reside and raise a family. He hopes also to keep Roslyn Estates' neighborhoods intact, while not compromising their beauty and charm.

Pasetsky said that a greater emphasis needs to be placed on the planning and preservation of local neighborhoods. Other issues that need to be addressed, he added, are the environment, zoning regulations, village safety and a children's playground.

Pasetsky lives in Roslyn Estates with his wife Lara and their children Jenna and Ella.

"My wife and I have been residents of the Village of Roslyn Estates for the past ten years," said candidate Brian Feingold. "We have been fortunate to raise our two children in our lovely tree-lined community.

"I have spent the past several years as a Director and Treasurer of the Roslyn Estates Civic Association," he continued. "During my years as an elected officer of our Civic Association, we have sponsored numerous exciting events and neighborhood get-togethers for our adults and children. We have also sponsored many projects including an updated Village Directory.

"I believe that my experience in promoting the interests of our village residents provides me with a strong background to further continue my efforts on behalf of our neighbors in the position of Village Trustee," Feingold concluded. "If elected, I promise to be an advocate for our village residents and to continue to improve quality of life, with focus on neighborhood safety, beautification, roads and services."

Dr. Siff issued the following statement:

"I am an incumbent trustee in the Village of Roslyn Estates. I have served the community as trustee for four years. I have been a resident of Roslyn Estates for over thirty-seven years and have been an active participant in community activities having served on the Roslyn Bryant Library Board of Trustees for ten years, the last five years as President of the Board. I have also been on the Board of Directors of the Roslyn Little League being involved in the league for over 20+ years and was responsible for initiating the Roslyn Girls Softball League. In addition, I served as the President of the Village of Roslyn Estates Civic Association.

"I am running again for the trustee because I feel that I bring to the board an experience in viewing the needs of residents of the Village. In the four years that I have been trustee, we, the board have accomplished the following:

• Traffic Safety Study - installed speed bumps throughout the Village to control the speed of vehicles passing thru the Village.

• Tennis facility- hired new director of facility who will encourage more Village residents to join.

• Review of trees on Village property- we hired an arborist and we have removed and pruned trees on Village property.

• First Village in New York State to utilize Wind Power to provide energy for the Village of Roslyn Estates (Village Hall).

• We have not raised Village taxes for the last 9 years.

"One of the main issues that the Village of Roslyn Estates is focusing on is the education of residents of recycling waste material," Dr. Siff concluded. "To help in this process the Village is providing written material and supplying separate bins for newspapers and bottles and cans to our residents. In addition, the Board is concerned with the condition of our Village roads and we have allocated over $350,000 for the repair of the roads. Our concern for the beauty and safety of our community will be a continuation of the new tree evaluation and maintenance program that we initiated this year. We are working on setting up a protocol with Nassau Police Dept. to become better informed as to the problems of the community.

"I feel with my overall experience and dedication that I will be able to listen to the residents of the Village and better serve the community," he said.
