The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) recently informed The Wheatley School that its Varsity Field Hockey team has been recognized for academic excellence. The Scholar-Athlete Recognition Program, which was initiated by NYSPHSAA seventeen years ago, recognizes team academic excellence based on the cumulative grade point average of a representative number of team members. A statewide Scholar-Athlete Team Champion is selected in each sport.
The top twelve members of the Wheatley Field Hockey team had a cumulative average of 96.75 and were recognized for achieving one of the highest cumulative team averages from across New York State. Each of the team representatives will receive a recognition pin. Congratulations to varsity coach, Terry Rogers, and the following team members whose grades were entered in the competition:
Jill Hsia
Kate Fong
Jacklyn Hsia
Annalise Kukor
Sara Olicker
Jenny Keller
Shirley Li
Sara Zeltsman
Jessica April
Sherene Elzanaty
Kelsy Eckhoff
Mieka John
In addition to being recognized by the NYPHSAA for academic excellence, the Wheatley Field Hockey program received recognition at the annual Nassau County Field Hockey Coaches Banquet. The promotion of scholarship and good sportsmanship is a priority in the Wheatley Athletic Department, and we are proud of this significant accomplishment on the part of the players and coach of the Wheatley Varsity Field Hockey team.
