On Wednesday, Jan. 23, the Roslyn Landmark Society will hold its January membership meeting, "Victorian Television," presented by Greg Dinkins.

Footsteps... "My Wife! Mum's the Word!" From the French Maid series by Underwood & Underwood, courtesy of the Sheldon Aronowitz collection.

The meeting will take place at The Jolly Fisherman Restaurant in downtown Roslyn.

Stereoviews were the most common publishing medium for photography in the mid-to-late nineteenth century. Visually curious Victorians who wanted to see and feel the wonders of the world could browse through situation comedies, celebrity and political topics, natural history, travel adventures, horror, children's and religious topics.

Many Victorian collections reflect a channel surfer's wide-ranging appetite for informative, entertainment, and fee-wizery.

New York Stereoscopic Society members contributed outstanding images to create this sample of the Victorian taste for 3-D media. Special 3-D glasses will be provided for stereoscopic viewing.

For the Jan. 23 event, the cash bar will begin at 6 p.m., dinner will start at 7 p.m., and the program commences at 8 p.m. Dinner reservations are required; call the society office at 625-4363.

The lecture is free and open to the public.
