Fresh from the ovens of Ben's Deli in Greenvale, Ronnie and Cindy Dragoon, along with Todd Silverstein, his manager, served a full Thanksgiving turkey with all the trimmings and many side dishes, at the Mary Brennan INN (Interfaith Nutrition Network) Soup Kitchen in Hempstead.
This fundraiser, the second annual, A day of Thanks and Giving was co-hosted by Liz Disome, Sue Auriemma, Cathy Lucas, Janet Vitello and Rob Kammerer. The doors opened at the Mary Brennan INN, on Sunday, Nov. 11, as invited family and friends came for a delicious Thanksgiving meal.
For 25 years this soup kitchen has depended on generous donations and dedicated volunteers who help the "guests" by serving lunch five days a week.
The INN has stood the test of time with 19 soup kitchens and shelters that serve the Long Island area. The care and guidance of Jean Kelly, executive director, of The INN is remarkable.
The co-directors, Stephan Robinson and Jean C. Victor at the Mary Brennan, work together to give the guests a safe and welcoming place to come, offering help with food, shelter, supportive services and the chance to discuss issues with a social worker.
Arriving at this soup kitchen, a "guest" can take a shower and then choose from the shop, where clothing, accessories and housewares are donated (new or gently used).
Special thanks to Ben's Deli in Wheatley Plaza, The Garden City Hotel, The Sikorski Family - Orginpress, Dawn Food Products, Leonetti Bakery in Greenvale, Riesterer's Bakery and the many volunteers who helped make this day possible.
