The 10-year-old Maroon Chiefs opened their playoff run by beating Hempstead 20-0 in the first round. It was a dominating performance by the Chiefs on both offense and defense. The Chiefs scored early on a run by Andrew Cunningham on the opening drive of the game. The defense got on the field and displayed their dominance. Mat Lafaye, John Clancy, Kyle Cunningham and Zak Chorost applied the pressure up front. Brian Smith, Thomas O'Connell, Kyle Spruill and Michael Patalano finished off the tackles and made sure no big plays were given up. On their second possession, the Chiefs scored again. This time Ryan Eccher ran it up the middle for a touchdown and Teddy Capsis scored the extra point behind the crisp blocking of Gavin Dowd, Andrew Hastings, Lucas Golon and Michael Delio.

The second half was a repeat of the first with Mineola scoring on a long run by Justin Johnson and the extra point by Anthony Preston to complete the scoring. The defense continued to get the job done, keeping Hempstead scoreless for the game. With the win, the Chiefs advance to the second round of the playoffs.
