This year, the Peter Terian Scholarship Award Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, July 18, at 7 p.m. at the Nassau County Museum of Art. The evening will include a tour of the museum, refreshments, and the unveiling of works by this year's winners.

Intended for Nassau County students in pursuit of a college degree in fine arts, the scholarship was created in memory of Mrs. Terian's late husband, Peter Terian, founder of Rallye Auto Group.

In 2006, more than 80 students throughout Nassau County applied for The Peter Terian Scholarship's inaugural year. Student applicants from all over Nassau County presented their artwork at The Peter Terian Student Art Showcase at the Rallye Mercedes-Benz showroom for the community to see and enjoy. Judges critiqued the students' work and met with each applicant to discuss the details of their art pieces. Applicants brought their family, friends as well as their high school teachers for support.

Five scholarship winners were chosen from this talented and creative group. After careful consideration, student artists from Hewlett, Oyster Bay, Sanford Calhoun, Herricks and Manhasset High School were awarded the $5,000 awards for their devotion to both art and their community.

Due to the overwhelming success of last year's scholarship, Mrs. Terian sought to recognize and award even more Nassau County High School students for their hard work and dedication.

The 2007 Peter Terian scholarship will award 10 students in Nassau County with scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 for the higher education institution of their choice.

Two Roslyn High School art students--Sara Rosenzweig and Jillian Kron--have submitted their artwork for the 2007 contest.

Students in pursuit of degrees in the fields of animation, architecture, cinematography, computer animation, drawing and sketching, electronic media, fashion design, graphic design, industrial design, interior design, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture are invited to apply.

Submissions will be judged based upon the student applicant's original artwork as well as an essay expressing the student's passion about art, the meaning of their artwork and how they plan to utilize art towards the betterment of our world.
