The Newbury college women's volleyball team posted a team-record 23 wins this season, improving on its 2005 ledger by five games. The Nighthawks continue to surpass old team records for wins in a single season. The Nighthawks continue to sign the history book as they are the first women's volleyball team at Newbury College to win the Division III Independent Women's Volleyball Championship with a perfect 5-0 record, in all five of those matches the Nighthawks did not lose a single game making them perfect in the tournament.

Newbury, which is located in Boston, MA, was undefeated at home this season with a record of 9-0, which makes the win streak at home currently stand at 10-0. Newbury faced some tough competition which made for some great volleyball matches. They defeated town rival Pine Manor College 3-2 to open the season. Another huge win for the Nighthawks came in the midst of their winning streak was against local rival Mount Ida College on their home court as Newbury won the match 3-2. Newbury dug out of two 0-2 deficits to overtake Emerson & Eastern Nazarene 3-2 for another high-point in the season.

The offense for the Nighthawks this year was led by senior Taraja Laws of Easton, PA, whose presence at the net was well known. Laws pounded down 492 kills for the season.

Fellow senior Megan Marr of Roslyn, a graduate of St. Mary's High School, contributed significant numbers to help the offense become a true force.

She pounded down 248 kills on the season. Marr defensively shut down the opponents' offensive attacks by compiling 110 blocks this season. In Marr's four years at Newbury she has compiled 609 kills and 230 blocks.

Sixth year Head Coach, David Hildebrandt also won his 100th career women's volleyball match during the Association of Division 3 Independent Championship match. He has 167 career wins, which include 5 season of Men's Volleyball at Newbury College.

Hildebrandt was honored as Coach of the Year for the Independent Association for his remarkable 23-14 record, which is after a 6-12 start. Hildebrandt is a 1997 Graduate of Glidden High School (WI) and a 2001 Graduate of Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island.
